One thing to sort out in advance: no cord or ribbon is supplied with it. There are holes on either side sized to take one, which is arguably the better arrangement since you choose the material and set the tension yourself instead of accepting whatever elastic came in the bag. You just need something on hand before you leave.

The mask is moulded plastic, 14 by 7 inches, or 36 by 18 centimetres, which puts the ears well above the head. That scale is deliberate: the ears do the work at distance, not just at conversation range. The half-face shape suits most adult heads with no adjusting, and the bridge is contoured instead of flat.

A contoured bridge is what makes wearing this for an hour bearable rather than something you abandon after twenty minutes. The shell is rigid, so it wants storing face up or laid flat with nothing heavy on top. Give both sides a wipe when you take it off and it can live in its box until the next one.
